July 2011

Hello to you all

Well this month has just flown by. It started with the Australian Short Course Championships which were down in Adelaide. This year they weren’t selection trials but there were Australian Titles up for grabs and seeing I was damaged last year at the short course with a back injury I was keen to reclaim the 200 butterfly title.
I was happy with my times down in Adelaide because we swam whilst in heavy training so I didn’t do too badly at all.
The rest of this month up until now has been a blur of events, outings and training for me. A couple of days after I got back from Adelaide it was the third State of Origin Rugby League Game. I am a huge Broncos fan and a born and bred Queenslander and I was lucky enough to get tickets to go to the match at Suncorp Stadium here in Brisbane. It was fantastic, the atmosphere was electric and WE WON – woohoo – it was awesome.

SIX ORIGIN SERIES IN A ROW That is a pretty remarkable achievement for the team – CONGRATULATIONS to them all – WELL DONE!!!

The last NASA space shuttle mission take off was amazing. I am in awe of those guys going into space and how does that huge space shuttle get off the ground. I have been following it on line and the astronauts even “tweet”. They are into day 6 today. So sad this is the last one (for a while anyway).

Next I was lucky enough to get tickets to the Rugby Union Grand final – Queensland Reds vs Canterbury Crusaders. I am happy and proud to say that Queensland did it again. 18 – 13 victory. Woo – good job boys!!!

I have been to the movies a couple of times this month too. I have been very excited to see XMEN First Class, it was pretty good but nowhere near as good as Transformers Dark of the Moon, but the movie I was really waiting to see was Harry Potter the final episode. I am a huge Harry Potter fan and have read the books quite a few times so was looking forward to seeing the last part of the whole series. I was a little disappointed with the movie. They definitely changed it a lot from the storyline in the book, but it was all there, action packed and wrapped up the series, so I guess it was ok.
I also got to see the Cirque du Soliel for the first time. They are absolutely amazing. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I had a great time.

I also squeezed in a photo shoot this week. It has been very chilly here in Brisso lately and I had to do pool shots as well as out of water shots but still looking wet. So getting sprayed with water in the very cool weather was not much fun BUT  the photos turned out great so it’s all good I guess 

We are leaving for Singapore tomorrow so I had better finish up here and get packing and go to bed. One more training session and then we fly off to the beautiful warm weather and the racing – the part of swimming I love the most.

I won’t be home until sometime in August. Competition starts 24.07.11 and the last day is the 31.07.11. I will write again when I get back home…Hopefully, I’ll have some good news to tell you. Fingers crossed for some good swims in China.

Bye for now

Jess 🙂
