The Leukaemia Foundation is the only national not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the care and cure of patients and families living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders.During the early 1970s, life for leukaemia patients, their families and medical staff was very different to what it is today. In 1975, the Holland Park Lions Club in Brisbane took up the challenge to improve their quality of life and provide medical care, patient support, research and education for patients, families and nursing staff. They formed the Lions Leukaemia Foundation. From fundraising to obtaining a vital piece of medical equipment for the Brisbane Mater Hospital, to supporting patients and families in every state and territory, investing millions into vital research and running one of Australia’s largest fundraising events, the Leukaemia Foundation has grown to become a world leader in patient support.
